The Cesco Tomaselli via ferrata to the Fanis Sud peak of the Lagazuoi is an incredible climb and contains all the ingredients that an via ferrata lover looks for: sustained difficulty, breathtaking panoramic views, an exposed and exciting route, a little visited peak and interesting historical aspects. Thanks to these characteristics, it is considered one of the most beautiful and difficult routes in the Dolomites.
A fascinating itinerary that will leave visitors’ mouths agape and satisfy the most demanding palates. This route is only suitable for those familiar with medium difficulty via ferrata. Some traverses with smooth rock and very vertical walls offer exposed, athletic and very enjoyable passages where even the most experienced climbers will find plenty to do. The panorama from the Fanis Sud peak is absolutely breathtaking: the west face of the Tofana di Rozes rises in all its magnificence and in the distance the Marmolada glacier, the largest glacier in the Dolomites, shines.
But getting to the top of Fanis is only half the battle. The descent is still long and complex and reserves some steep and exposed passages. The result is a long and challenging day, perfect for all those ferrate enthusiasts who want to treat themselves to an ascent of one of the most difficult via ferratas in the Dolomites.
