The De Luca/Innerkofler via ferrata on Monte Paterno is one of the most famous in the Dolomites, thanks to its ease and the panoramic view it offers of the famous north faces of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The via ferrata De Luca/Innerkofler traverses a system of tunnels and war trenches that wind along the ridge of Monte Paterno, making it one of the most impressive routes in the Sexten Dolomites. The route does not present any particular difficulties, apart from a few steeper sections, secured by excellent fixed ropes. Crossing the trenches and long tunnels of this via ferrata (a headlamp is compulsory and provided) makes this route unique and extremely fascinating. The summit offers those who have made it this far one of the most beautiful views of the imposing north faces of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
In short, a route of undoubted beauty amidst remains of the First World War and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
For the more experienced, once you have reached the top of Mount Paterno and descended to the Forcella del Camoscio, you can continue along the Forcelle trail. The Forcelle path is a beautiful equipped trail that uses ledges, trenches and suspended bridges to reach the Forcella del Lago, from where you return to the car. This second option, decidedly longer and more tiring, will pay off with a varied and enjoyable route, surrounded by fairytale scenery.
For those who spend the night in a local refuge (Lavaredo Refuge, Locatelli Refuge, Auronzo Refuge) the night before the excursion, it is possible to meet the Mountain Guide directly at the refuge on the morning of the excursion.
