The Mesules via ferrata on Piz Selva is one of the most beautiful and difficult via ferrata routes in the Dolomites, but it was also the first via ferrata to be built (in 1910) in these UNESCO World Heritage mountains. A long, strenuous and physical demanding route that allows you to explore a very wild part of the Sella group. The Mesules ferrata is vertical, with technical and sometimes overhanging passages. Some points are not equipped with metal ropes, but the guide’s rope will allow you to pass safely. During the entire ascent, you can enjoy fantastic 360° views of some of the main Dolomite groups in the Val di Fassa and Val Gardena. Arriving at the top of Piz Selva is an intense experience: the Dolomites lie at our feet and we can admire the lunar Sella Plateau in all its splendour.

The descent from the Mesules via ferrata is also long and tiring. Walk along part of the plateau, with some ups and downs between rocks and scree, until you reach the Forcela dai Ciamorces (Forcela dei Camosci) and from here the Rifugio Boè. Before arriving there, we begin the descent along the Val Lasties, a steep, long and wild valley, wedged between the vertical walls of the Sella. The environment is austere and majestic, a perfect complement to the beauty and difficulty of the climb. A final short, steep descent takes us through the meadows of Pian Schiavaneis. A well-deserved beer awaits us here to celebrate our ascent of the Mesules ferrata, the oldest via ferrata in the Dolomites!

NB: Due to the length and difficulty of the route, the Mesules via ferrata should only be attempted in stable weather conditions.
