Monte Pelmo is one of the most famous and admired 3,000 metres in the Dolomites. It is nicknamed ‘Caregon del Padreterno‘ because of its unique shape, which makes it resemble a huge armchair with a backrest (the north wall) and the east and south ridge acting as armrests. These three structures enclose the Valon, an enormous ancient glacial circus. Walking inside the Valon is an absolutely unique experience: the environment is remarkable and grandiose, between huge rock walls.
To access the Valon, it is necessary to walk along the Ball ledge, a ledge that runs almost horizontally, which is very narrow and exposed in places. After having walked up the Vallon and crossed the entire upper Vant in a leftward direction, the ascent continues to the ridge separating the south face and the main peak of the Pelmo, which offers a beautiful view of the valley below. From here, a ridge that is exposed in places and reserves some climbing passages finally deposits the summit cross.
The climb is fascinating and rich in mountaineering history, but it is physically demanding due to its length and is reserved for those who do not suffer from giddiness. It affords grandiose views and due to the limited technical difficulties (limited in some short sections) it can also be done by hikers with good physical fitness.

ATTENTION: due to the length of the route, it is strongly recommended to spend the night before the ascent at the Venezia hut. You will meet your guide at the refuge the following morning.
