The ‘Sottotenente Fusetti’, as the name suggests, is named after Second Lieutenant Mario Fusetti, war hero of the Sass de Stria. It is a brand new and very entertaining via ferrata, inaugurated on 18 October 2018, to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War by the Italian mountain troops. In addition
to the beautiful views that can be enjoyed all day long and the fun passages that it offers (which are never too difficult and are also suitable for children), it is a route of great historical interest, as it was on the Sass de Stria that bloody battles were fought, such as the one that led to the death of Lieutenant Fusetti himself.
The ferrata is not very long and of moderate difficulty. It is therefore perfect for beginners who want to approach the spectacular world of via ferrata. The approach is along the tunnel and the Goiginger Post, which makes this part very interesting. At the end of the via ferrata, it is possible to walk along the numerous trenches that end at the summit of Sass de Stria, which offers a 360° panorama of some of the most beautiful peaks in the Dolomites. In the event of excessive tiredness, once the ferrata is finished, it is possible to descend directly to the car.
The beauty of the environment, the modest length of the via ferrata, and the quick approach and return make this via ferrata feasible even for people with little training but who want to treat themselves to a day of indelible emotions.
